IMPROVING THE PUBLIC REALM
This research project offers a comprehensive analysis of the Zorlu Center and Levazim district in Istanbul, Turkey, focusing on their public spaces and urban characteristics. The initial phase of the study involved an in-depth exploration of the area, revealing a stark division between the Zorlu Center and Levazim, each exhibiting distinctly different traits. The second phase was dedicated to investigating the public spaces within these areas, identifying and scrutinizing their specific problems. The research also included a comparative study of other public spaces facing similar challenges. This comparative approach led to an understanding of how certain issues in these spaces were resolved, sometimes with relatively minor interventions. The final stage of the project centered on these interventions, studying them to develop similar strategies aimed at enhancing the public realm. This research not only provides valuable insights into the urban dynamics of the Zorlu Center and Levazim but also offers practical solutions for improving public spaces in similar urban environments.
